Innovation, legislation, and sustainability under one roof
The year 2025 brought significant changes in the area of textile collection, sorting, and recycling. New waste management legislation will shift responsibility for textile waste not only to local governments but also to manufacturers, distributors, and retailers of textiles, footwear, and clothing. Textile manufacturers and importers will now be required to comply with the so-called Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) scheme—a system that is already in place for packaging, electrical equipment, and batteries. The aim of this change is to increase the collection and reuse rates of textiles and contribute to more sustainable management of textile waste in Slovakia.
